Becca's Curtains!

Finally! We’ve had the material for about 6 months and Becca has been bugging me to make her curtains ever since then, but I finally made them today! Woo Hoo! She’s happy with them, and I think they turned out pretty good.

She loves black and white, and anything zebra.

She wanted a black strip across the top and bottom, and the slot for the rod is pretty big so if she wants to take them to college with her, she can.

On her bed is her laptop, and it even has a zebra skin on it! lol! It’s a little hard to see with the big flowers on her bed, but it’s there.

She’s got pictures that she’s taken all through her room, and several of them turned into posters. It’s a very typical “teen” room! lol!

Just Veggin...

This adorable bunny and directions can be found can be found over at Craftown.com.

I’ve been looking for a cute bunny to put on my front door for Easter… and I only have a little over a week to make it! I better get on the ball!

They include the patterns and all the directions on how to make it. It looks like a fairly simple project. Hubby Frank has a lot of wood scraps around so he should be able to come up with enough wood for me.

I love the face on this bunny! I hope I’m able to duplicate it!

Make sure you stop over at Craftown.com to check out all their Easter crafts from easy to Advanced ideas!

Hoppy Easter!

Grubby Dolls!

I want to share this great article I found about making dolls that are “Grubby”. Enjoy!

<><><><>

“Grubby” is the word I kept hearing around the craft circuit. To me grubby meant grimy. So I decided to get to the bottom of this and find out the big deal with grubbing a doll and what it really meant in crafters terms. So I decided to ask a fellow crafter “What Is Grubby? To my surprise I found out that it’s another word for aged or old and that it gives your dolls that dirty look. Now at first I thought to myself “Why would I want to make my dolls look dirty”. Then I did a few of my dolls and realized they are not really dirty looking but a bit more primitive.
So to get “The Grubby Doll Look”, you can use a tea mixture, coffee or Walnut Ink. I decided to go with Walnut Ink, since I seem to drink too much coffee or tea to keep any left over for my dolls. Where do you purchase Walnut Ink? Try various craft sites and also E-bay sells them. Now this does not mean to go out and make all your dolls look grubby, has you may or may not like the look. Trust me; I was skeptical in the beginning so it’s best to start out with 1-2 dolls at a time.

Once you have grubbed up a few dolls, try selling them at your next craft show. This is a great way to introduce a new doll to your customers and also find out if they are acceptable. It is always good to test your market before going overboard with a new product.

Now of course I don’t listen to my own advice and have done well with making these sort of dolls. I even sold a few on Ebay. So if you decide to jump in and just go nuts with making grubby dolls, remember I warned you. Smile
Also know that each target market area is different and some people may not know what grubby is so be prepared to answer the question “What is Grubby”?!

T Shirts and Bumper Stickers

Doing some searching tonight, I came across a site called Planet Label that has a wide variety of products. They have all the regular type address, inkjet and laser labels, however they have a couple very unique items that may come in handy for me.

My girls love to make their own T-shirts. For years, they’ve tie dyed, used fabric markers and fabric paints to make T-shirts for school, Girl Scout events and even church. Well, in August, I’ll be taking Becca and Jillian, as well as my Sister in Law and her daughter, and two of Jillian friends to the beach for a week. Jillian and her friends have decided that they just HAVE to have matching t-shirts to wear there, but they wanted something unique.

Someone suggested to us that we purchase heat transfer sheets so that they can make their own designs for their shirts on the computer, then print them onto the heat transfer sheets and iron them right on their shirts! Planet Label carries the heat transfer sheets, and even offers you step by step downloadable instructions on how to use the labels. This is going to be great! The girls are going to love it!

Paw PrintI also noticed that they carry Bumper Sticker and Static Cling labels. I’m a Band Booster for my daughter’s marching band and we’ve been talking about making a bumper sticker for the band. It will probably be one of those ones that says, “My child is in the Bobcat Marching Band” or something like that with a Bobcat in the middle. They offer 4″ and 6″ circles for less than $1.00 a piece! They even offer Car Magnets that can be customized for the schools.

If you’re looking for regular or unique labels, stop over at Planet Label to see what they have to offer.

Easter Egg Wreath

My mom made this wreath at the Senior Center today for her apartment door. Didn't she do a great job? They bought a whole bunch of different size plastic eggs, then hot glued them onto a straw wreath. They do crafts about once a month and always seem to come up with unique ideas.

Napkin Applique Easter Eggs

These make beautiful eggs and are fun to make. The hardest part is blowing the egg out the hole. We're planning to make these tonight!

What You Need

  • Raw eggs
  • Straight pin
  • Sponge brush
  • School glue (like Elmer's)
  • Decorative paper napkins (flower or Easter designs are nice)
  • Paper plate
  • Wax paper

How To Make It

  1. Prick egg at both ends with straight pin. Make the hole on the bottom a little larger.
  2. Blow the egg out.
  3. Wash off egg and dry.
  4. Put some glue on a paper plate.
  5. Divide the napkin into layers. Keep only the top decorated layer.
  6. Tear the napkin into about 2" or smaller pieces.
  7. Sponge brush glue on part of the egg.
  8. Lay a piece of the napkin, right side up, over the egg. Smooth.
  9. Continue covering egg with glue and napkins.
  10. Finish with one coat of glue over entire egg to seal.
  11. Let dry completely.
  12. Use your eggs in baskets, table decorations, or any place you would like.

Printable Pages for Kids!

If you have younger kids, here are two great websites that will give you links to hundreds of printable pages for kids! Printables For Kids and Free Stuff 4 Kids. I know when my girls were younger, I often printed pages off the web for them to take with them if I had to take them to meetings with me. I also used Word Searches and Word Finds when I was leading Girl Scouts and they were a huge hit!

Check out these sites and see what you can find!

Gotta Get Goals!

I've been tagged! MK at Coffee Shop Chatter tagged me and challenged me to list my top goals. So I had some thinking to do! Since I'm actually pretty new to blogging, I've made some short term goals, but haven't really thought of any long term goals...

I tracked this challenge back to Gayla at Mom Gadget and then even further to Alex Shalman and it looks like he is the one that started this.... Here are his rules:

1) In a new blog post, list and write about the top 5 to 10 goals that you gotta’ get so that you can truly say you have achieved your wildest dreams in life. These have to be your best, most exclusive, and over-the-top goals that you can pick off your goals list.

2) In the introduction of your post, explain what you’re doing with the Gotta’ Get Goals project and “put a link and/or a trackback to this post”, for the purpose of giving them the full rules and for me to compile the master list of all participants that I’ll link to in a future post.

3) As with Simply Success Secrets, don’t forget to put a link or trackback to the blogger who tagged you for Gotta’ Get Goals in order to let your readers follow the conversation around.

4) Sharing your Gotta’ Get Goals with your own audience, will also share them with the blogger who tagged you and the bloggers you tagged, as well as their whole audience!

5) There is no limit to how many bloggers you are allowed to “tag”, so go crazy. It will help their exposure as well as your own when they tag back to your Gotta Get Goals post. That’s how meme’s work.

6) Sit back and enjoy the show. As Aaron would say, “watch the [gotta get goals] and the crossover audiences start rolling in!

So, here are my top "Gotta Get Goals":

1. Family. It's been a rough year... my oldest daughter had a cancerous tumor removed in November 2006 and has been through a lot. My family goal is to spend as much time possible with all of them as often as possible. Becca received a Make A Wish because of her cancer and we are heading to Florida in June to swim with dolphins at Discovery Cove! I want to make this the best vacation we have ever taken!

2. Faith. My faith is very important to me. I have been feeling like there is something additional that I need to be doing for God and my goal is to do a lot of praying to find out what that is. God has been my source of strength throughout my life and He has always been my rock, and if he has something for me to do, I plan to do it.

3. Financial Freedom. Ahhh, this one is going to take some work! I'm working outside the home full time right now, but my goal is to start making enough money online so that I can stay home and be there for my girls and their activities. Then after that is achieved, I want to be able to have enough extra money to do all that we want to do, without having to worry about it! And, I want to be able to pay for the girls' college educations without worrying about loans and grants...

4. Travel. Kind of goes along with Financial Freedom... We love to travel as a family and my goal is to start doing a lot of it! The trip to Florida is the first real family vacation we have taken as a family that wasn't in Pennsylvania. The girls have never flown in a plane and have only been in a handful of states. My goal is to have enough money so that we can go on a real vacation at least once a year.

5. Home Improvements. We have a lot of things that need done to our home. My goal is to work toward making those things happen. My outrageous goal is to be able to purchase our dream log home and live on 5 acres in the country! But my reasonable goal is to build a new deck on the side of the house connecting to our pool and to replace all the windows in the house.

Since I was tagged, I am passing this tag on to some fellow bloggers and ask that you post your goals on your blog. Don't forget to link back to this post!
